细数PowerVC1.3.3重要更新那些实用功能

Integration of software-defined networking
Software-defined networking (SDN) virtualizes your network in a similar way that compute resources are virtualized. With SDN, you can deploy networks and change your network layout without making physical changes to your network environment. PowerVC supports SDN on PowerVM NovaLink managed systems.
The SDN function integrated in PowerVC 1.3.3 has the following functionality. These functions require a network node:
• Overlay network support (i.e., VXLANs)
• Support for virtual routers to connect your overlay network to your wide area network (WAN)
• Support for external IP addresses to assign a public IP address from your WAN to a virtual machine on the overlay network

Host memory rebalancing for CoD mobile memory
The Dynamic Resource Optimizer (DRO) capabilities continue to be expanded in this release. It now supports host memory rebalancing for Capacity on Demand (CoD) mobile memory on NovaLink managed systems. With this support, PowerVC can migrate virtual machines or activate mobile memory to correct memory imbalances.

Send email

On Cloud PowerVC Manager systems, you can configurePowerVCto send emails when certain events happen—for example, when a VM deploy request is created or completed. Emails are sent via an SMTP server and use addresses retrieved from the specified LDAP server.

Administrators can customize the email message sent with each event, and can customize which messages are sent by default. Users can override the default selections with their own choices of when messages are sent.

Perform more tasks from the user interface

You can now perform the following tasks from the user interface:
• Set project policies – On Cloud PowerVC Manager systems, project policies are used to control various aspects of a self-service user’s resources and tasks.
• View usage meters – On Cloud PowerVC Manager systems, you can now view usage information on the user interface. This data includes the number of owned virtual machines, the amount of allocated memory, the number of allocated virtual processors, and so on. Administrators and project managers have a new Resource Usage tab on the home page.
• Work with projects – Working with projects includes adding, removing, and changing projects.
• Work with roles – You can now change roles that are assigned to users from the user interface.

Set project quotas

From the user interface, administrators can set quotas for resource usage within a project. For example, you can specify how many virtual machines can exist in the project, how many physical and virtual processors the project can use, how much volume storage the project can use, and so on.

New and changed roles

PowerVC roles have been updated to fit your needs better:
• The deprecated “deployer” role is no longer supported. Any users that have the deployer role when PowerVC is upgraded to version 1.3.3 are given the following roles that together most closely approximate the former deployer role: vm_manager, storage_manager, and image_manager.
• The deployer_restricted role is renamed to “deployer”. Any users that have the deployer_restricted role when PowerVC is upgraded to version 1.3.3 are given the deployer role.
• New project_manager role (Cloud PowerVC Manager only). This new role allows a user to manage most aspects of a project in a simplified view that omits infrastructure details. For example, a project manager user can approve or reject requests from self-service users but cannot remove compute hosts from registration.
Manage an existing virtual machine into a different project
Previously, you could not manage a virtual machine into one project, unmanage the virtual machine, and then manage it into a different project. With version 1.3.3, this process is supported when using shared networks.

Register multiple Cisco VSANs

You can register multiple Cisco virtual storage area networks (VSANs) from a Fibre Channel switch.

Reference architecture for PowerVC high availability and disaster recovery solutions
PowerVC documentation will provide a reference architecture for high availability and disaster recovery solutions that are performed by installing two (or more) PowerVC systems such that one system remains active with the ability to take periodic active backups of data.

Rename a virtual machine
Finally! It’s here—you spoke, and we listened! Virtual machines can be renamed within PowerVC; users with an admin, deployer, or vm_manager role assignment can rename a virtual machine. This won’t actually rename the virtual machine on the hypervisor, but rather provides a simple mechanism to “spiff up” the name within PowerVC—a major usability enhancement!

Micro-partitioning support

When deploying or resizing a virtual machine, you can now set a partition that uses shared processors to use as little as 1/20th of a processing unit (assuming the underlying compute host supports this granularity).
